TIA

They kill big moose. That river delta area harbors some
Of the biggest moose I have ever seen. Ever.

The genetics/food combo makes the moose from there the fastest growing in the state. On average a bull reaches the 50" mark at an earlier age there than anywhere else. He is very reputable and well thought of.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Is this the same guy that got the nick name "same day sam" for flying over game and then shooting it right after landing?

Yup. Probably from his brother though who I believe was busted for same day hunting. ESPN or someone videoed it. Never worked for Sam, but ran into him in the field before. Was a nice enough guy.

Isn't the brother dead now?

I met him in Barney's in 2016.

I’m not sure. I know one of the fejes boys died but not sure if it was the brother or the dad. I never heard any specifics.

The guy I met was a really nice guy but seriously over weight. I remember being surprised.

It was Jim Fejes that recently passed away, Sam’s brother.

I know at least a dozen guys who’ve hunted with him. Everyone has taken great animals and had a good experience. The weather in his area can get hairy. One of my buddies shot a 72 inch moose with him, but also got weathered in the field for almost two weeks. He takes some great bears as well.

Did Sam actually guide any of them? I was on a flight to Kodiak with him this fall. His clients were already in the field and he wasn’t even on the island. Big moose down there that’s no joke! Coastal moose hunting can get interesting.
I’d be interested to know how many guided moose hunters on the Alaska Peninsula or coastal Alaska are harvested without being scouted from the air first. The areas I’ve been in both places the quality bulls were spread out a lot. Make it tough without the plane finding them.
