Muskox Sucess on Nunivak Island
Just passing this story & photos along from a local J-town guy who just got back from Nunivak. He went fully guided by the locals. Spent quite a sum IMO, but was sucessful.

His notes from the hunt:

Killed the bull on the afternoon of the first hunting day. His rough green score is just above book minumum - just couldn't walk away from him. The first pic is of his askari who wouldn't leave him - the guides tried to run him off for over 40 minutes and finally had to sneak in and tie a rope around the dead bull's leg and pull him away. The weather on the first day was beautiful, -13 and no wind, then we got stormbound for 2 days (-20 and 40mph winds, gusts to 60). It was a great hunt!

A co-worker is heading out next week on this same hunt. He's going to use a transporter, not a guide. Hope he does well too.

Beautiul Muskox!!!

As an asides, is it me who thinks it is 'unique' that the shooter has a white over-jacket on and the guides have camo on in the Great White North???

Kinda hard to hide behind a tree that far North!

My hunting buddy who lives in Ak shot one last year on Nunivak. The surprise to me was that the muskox is great eating. He said the weather was absolutely hell when he was there and it was quite a tough hunt, mostly due to the weather.

A shot not taken is always a miss

Nice bull. That looks like somewhere near Robert's Mountain.

I was thinking about doing this, but now that I am on the east coast until 2011, makes more sense to do it out of Greenland for less money.

Airfare Portland, ME to Nunivak $1500 (3 day journey)
Transporter $3500
Tag $500 (if you get drawn)

Or

Greenland Muskox for $4500
Airfare from Portland to Nuuk $650

Not relying on weather Bering sea weather! Priceless!

That and you can hunt Greenland in July!
