SnellstromDeer and Black Bear Kupreanof / Petersburg
Will be hunting Black Bear on Kupreanof first week of September and went ahead and got Deer tags as well Unit 3. Any tips on the Deer hunting?
Not looking for your honey hole just some generalities. That time of year are they down on the beach, in the clear cuts or dark timber?
Looking forward to the responses, thanks in advance.

Alaskaman11Blacktails are sun worshipers, look for them in the open fields when its sunny.

To translate this into SE Alaska terminology: open fields and or meadows only occur on the mountain tops.

To further translate this into SE Alaska terminology... IT'S NEVER SUNNY IN SE ALASKA!

SnellstromAny other tips? Appreciate the response but that was short and sweet.
We'll watch for Bears near the fish but any other suggestions on the deer?
Not a novice to deer just want to know some local particulars that may help.

Alaskaman11Just go to the tops of the mountains to get them, they can be as high as the goats. If bears are primary, you will be down on the rivers, not where the deer will be

SnellstromThanks Alaskaman
I appreciate the information.
We will spend some time fishing and hunting bears down low but will make an effort to get up high and find some deer as well.
We are all getting wolf tags too.
Thanks again I'll be asking more particulars later on this summer.

SnellstromMy trip is getting closer and thought I'd bring this topic back up to hear if anyone had any other info they could help me out with.
Thanks in advance to all that respond!
