I know the outfitter, Erik Salitan, and he is hard working and has had good success over the past few years.
It appears he also is building a nice lodge in Wiseman.

Call anyone in wiseman and ask them what they think of him. I loaned him some sled dogs a few years ago saying they were starved would be an understatement. I hunt that part of the Brooks every fall and there are acouple of real good guides and a few real crooks.

I have read all you post about getting in shape for you hunt. If this is the outfitter you pick for your trip you will be glad you got in shape so you can beat a refund out of him. Please call anyone in Wiseman to ask how they feel about him.

Don't know the outfitter, but that is a great line! rotflmo

This is interesting. I personally know someone who has hunted with him 5 years in a row and calls him
" the best young outfitter in AK." This guy can hunt anywhere . He chooses to hunt with Erik

I have met several multiple year clients. All say good things.

He got a high rating on Outfittersrating.com

I guess I will find out in about 7 months.

My eyes are open and my sat phone will be charged.

Sorry I must of misread your post I thought you were asking if anyone knew him. Wow 5 years in a row I did not know he had been guiding that long. Did your friend get 5 sheep? When I first met him he had just moved up from New York and was trying to get to Wiseman for the winter. He seemed nice enough. I have bumped into him a few times in coldfoot during the first week of sheep season and found it odd he was not out in camp guiding.

I want to add most of the guides in that part of the Brooks hate me. Between my 3 son's and a few close friends we kill more sheep than some of the bigger sheep outfitters. I have afew close friends that live in Wiseman and a few that mine up around that part of the world in the summer so I get to hear the local gossip. When I was younger and before I had kids I guided and got to meet some really good people who call The Brooks range home so sorry my info does not come from Outfittersrating.com.

I love the Brooks range and I'm sure you will have a world class trip. I hope I did not come off like to much of a jerk. I'm sure the ones I have heard bad mouthing your guide have short coming too. One thing I will say if you go get a grizz tag chances are you will be glad you did.

By the way, my friend hunted bears and I believe moose and caribou. He has not hunted sheep with Erik as yet . He took a B&C brown bear.

I did speak with references that Erik gave me. I subsequently found out about my friend hunting with him. My post here was an attempt to hear from others when I could not find anything on The Hunting Report.

Thanks

Landed in Boston late last night . Started flipping channels. Much to my surprise, Erik was in a Nat Geo program. I think it was called Life Below Zero or something like that.

After watching the show are you still going with him?

I saw a portion of that show. I was surprised when he took an AR-15 out on a cold weather hunt, which apparently he had not tested before its use, and was then shocked that the BCG wouldn't move and the rifle misfired. Anyone living in the arctic should know how the cold will affect your rifle.

I don't know him, but that area has a lot of bear and caribou, so I would expect he would do well guiding for those. I would try to check his sheep client's opinions.

I only saw a few seconds of it. I am going to record the series.

I did see the rifle incident. I have an identical rifle. The issue may not have been the cold. I have had the exact same thing in 90 degree weather.
