kodiak bear outfitters
I am looking to set up a kodiak grizz hunt. Anyone have input on good outfitters?
Is spring or fall the better time to hunt them?
thanks

I just got back from a hunt with Brian Peterson. Tough hunt but the lodge was nice and food great. I did not get a bear but passed on one on day 8. The other guy in the lodge got one 10-3 with skull 29 11/16. It was a monster. Brian is a good and fair outfitter.

I'll say Scott Mileur. Killed a 9' 4" squared with a 28 3/16" skull this spring. The guy worked for the legends(Pinnell and Talifson) and I think he will be recognized as one himself some day.

I'll be going with Dennis Harms of Alaska Trophy Safaris in May 2015. Heard good things about Scott Mileur too.

I got a fine Moose with Dennis Harms, already have my Bear. If I needed a Brown Bear there would be no doubt that Dennis would get the job. He has some of the better concessions on Kodiak and I can attest to his guides being top notch. Good shooting.

When I was at the afg station this last may 1 two guys who hunted with Dennis harms were logging in two very nice bears. My only two reasons I didn't go with him is the price and the long charter flight to camp. It was 15 minutes to petersons camp.

I would suggest Brian Peterson, Master Guide and Outfitter. He can be reached at Ugakbaylodge.com. Or simply google Brian Peterson Master Guide. I have hunted and fished with Brian for several years. I took a brownie this year that had a beautiful hide. One gentleman in the first week got the lucky bear of the year award taking a 10'5" bear right on the beach. I took mine after 8 days of mountain hunting.

I got my bear with Paul Chervenak and guide Dave Pingree, not sure how you could do any better than these guys. Seen lots of bears and took one 9'7" with skull 29 13/16. Great bear, perfect hide....

I second Paul Chervenak and HIGHLY recommend Cole Kramer who works for him and has had phenomenal success on big bears. I really like the area Cole hunts, I've hunted there twice although only once with Cole.

First hunt was with a different guide (Joe Want) in 1997, second hunt was with Cole in 2008.

I'd strongly endorse Mike Munsey. Hunted with his operation in April of last year. Great camp and guides. Everybody (three of us in two camps) took a good bear.

Hunted fall of '12 with Munsey, shot a great bear. Had my choices down to 4 outfitters all long time great guides and couldn't be happier with my choice. Good luck! The planning is all part of the adventure.
