Sitka Blacktail Pic
Here's a photo of a deer I killed over the weekend in Southeast. I only made it out to hunt for one day, but had an enjoyable time...

David,

That is one fine Blacktail buck. Does he have browtines? I can't tell by the pic. Have you scored him? He seems to be up there. I've been meaning to go on a sitka hunt. Is this the type of hunt that a non-resident can do on his own?

I've killed a lot of mulies and whitetails, but I've got to say those Sitka Blacktails are by FAR the most beautiful deer species that there is.

Congrats on a beaut!!!

Nice deer David!

what kind of width did that buck have? I'm guessing right around 17", or so.

Not back for a single day hunt, either.

I only shot one big buck this year - in August. Finished punching my remaining tags over the vet's day weekend - 5 day trip, w/ 3.5 days of hunting. I did shoot a decent 3x2 with very nice points, but only 12" of width.

Thanks! He's a good deer, and I was happy to have him, but he's not book material. No brow tines, and not as wide as the pic looks. I'll check the width, but not sure what it measures at the moment.

Here's one from Kodiak last year:

Lars, that's a nice one you got..I want a velvet buck next year!

Well, he only had a 15" outside spread. Not trophy quality according to any measure save mine. Here's what most of him looks like now...

As beautiful as they are when still in the fur, I think your last photo is the most beautiful of all.

Sitka blacktail meat is simply some of the best eating in the world.

Dave,

Couple of nice bucks you shot. The 4X3 is really nice. Not many bucks actually get that fork to make the 4th point.

Sitka blacktail is one of those hunts I could easily make each year without getting tired of it. If you hit the rut correctly it can be an amazing experience with bucks running all over.

Yeah, as I posted on 24hourcampfire, blacktail hunting is a disease, not a hobby. Heres what a stuffed loin looks like when properly prepared...

have a good one, all..
