Thinking of a Raffle
In a conversation with the owner of nwaoutfitters last evening about the rising costs of everything associated with remote guided hunting we discussed the average working guy and how it is virtually impossible for them to afford a full blown guided moose or BB Hunt.
I suggested some type of raffle where a limited # of tickets would be available ( 150 ), for 100$ per ticket that would cover all expenses for 11 days of hunting and charter flights, licenses and tags.
Do you guys think this wold be a good thing and do you think we could get a big enough response to do this?
Its just a thought and would like some input before we even tried something likr this.

Thanks
Slasher

Given the small change I'd get to go BB hunting otherwise ... I'd be in too.

A small chance is better than none at all.

Wow thought i would get more input.
Sounded like a good idea and i thank you 3 guys for the response.
Trying to work out the details and if it would even be worth the effort as it would take some planning but hopefully i will et some more input here and we can do it for an 08 or 09 hunt.

Thanks

Is that leagle in AK ... Do raffles have to be regirtsered or something?

The new Guide law says you must have a contract in place after receiving money from a hunter.

Would that also include air fare from the lower 48. If I just might take a chance.

You will easily sell 200 tickets if the raffle is properly marketed. I suggest that you contact Cabella's, Bass Pro, and Sportsman Warehouse. Do a raffle in each store, limit the tickets to 200 so you can include air fare. Give a percentage to a habitat conservatory or other non profit that endorses hunting and preserves hunting land; that is the marketing that will help sell the program and the tickets. You will probably sell out in a couple of weeks.

To stay within the law, create a separate LLC to run the raffle. The LLC buys the hunt from the outfitter so the contract rule in AK won't be broken. Then the LLC sells the raffle tickets. This way, if the hunter has an accident, he can only sue the LLC which is only a shell corporation.

Great info thanks and will advise.

Cabellas or whatever seems a little big. We were thinking of trying to keep it a little more on the intimate side. These are things we are looking into and researching thoroughly before doing it.

Thanks

These raffles go over very well IF with an established outfitter. If this is just another way to market a hunt for the outfitter, you will probably be disappointed. I have helped with such a raffle with RMEF for a fully guided brown bear hunt. A top notch outfit and we didn't have any problem selling out the tickets. A certain percentage went to RMEF and the outfitter. It was a win/win for everyone, but for the guide the real win was the marketing exposure and good trip report filed by the winner.
Again, if you are just trying to market unsold hunts for a less well known / respected outfit, then I would suggest it is not a very good idea.

This is in an area that has been hammered by the wolves. When (dem) Tony Knowles got elected gov one of his 1st acts was to stop land and shoot hunting of wolves. In just 3 or 4 yrs the increase of wolves was starting to show and in 10 yrs many area's were almost devoid of moose. Many guides have gone out of business that depended on moose hunting and with the Mulchatna caribou herd in decline GMUs 17&19 are mere shadows of there former selves.
