p dog shooterIf your not training all ready get at it. Some running, biking, humping a pack around up and downs hills well do you lots of good.
Shed a few pounds if you have some extra.
Three months there is still time to get in shape. Get to the range ect.
You well do just find if you work at it before you go.

M774nowI can guarantee it is more mountain climbing than hiking. You have plenty of time to get out there and run, bike and climb steep hills with your boots and backpack on. The better shape you arrive in, the more you will enjoy the hunt and have an improved chance of success.

Les StaleyM774now: Good ideas!. we're just winding down a spring black bear hunt, every night after work, hikeing in about a half mile uphill.. we took three bears, two cinimon blonde boars, and one larger black boar a little over six feet. We live at 7200 feet elevation, and are used to the thin air, most of our fall hunting is above 9000. Just found a M 70 SS classic in 338WM, new in box and bought it. If it shoots as good as it looks, it will go to AK with me. I'll start hikeing three evenings a week with full pack and rifle. Meanwhile, load developing, decideing which load, targeting, Lots to do.. Les

M774nowIf the .338 performs, you don't need anything larger than a 210 Partition. Its still overkill but if its your most accurate, take it. Don't go overboard on a big heavy scope. Everything sheep hunting is centered around its weight. If it isn't essential, it stays home. There is not much room to have any luxuries. Its the basics to hunt and survive. In the order I've have decided their importance are: 1.boots 2.sleeping
bag 3.optics 4.rifle.

Les StaleyM774now: Will the nosler 210 partition be enough for Grizzly/Brown bear? I managed to put three into a one inch group at 100yds this afternoon.. haven't chronographed this load yet, but intend to. 75gr RL19 Scoped it with a Bushnell Elite 3200 2x7 in Leupold Mnts.

Les StaleyThis rifle doesn't smack me as hard as the CZ3.. I guess if I was willing to take a 300WSM along, these 210s should do allright.. Just answered my own question.. feel free to add your coments.. Les

M774nowI'll be in the Chugiak Range south of you during the same time frame looking for a ram.
I probably will take the 300WSM Kimber but its not written in stone yet. Dall sheep aren't that hard to bag. My .270Win and 7x57 are very accurate and one of them might go. I've been to AK. 3 times and have only scene a black bear - no Mt. Grizzlies. I'd pick the lighter of two rifles. Both the 300WSM and of course the .338WM will take a grizzly.

ChisanaM774now,
That's Chugach Range. Who is your guide? I'll be hunting the eastern Chugach in early September. Good luck.
