Dall Sheep Population SURVEYS
Anyone seen any current (this summer) Dall Sheep count ariel surveys. Last winter was super hard. Actually, Alaska or Canada

ALASKA is a "HARD COUNTRY for OLDMEN". (But if you live it wide'ass open, balls'to the wall, the pedal floored, full throttle, it is a delightful place, to finally just sit-back and savor those memories while sipping Tequila).

Not from this year, but new to the public. The state of Alaska recently published online the harvest data from 2021. In the Tok Management Area, only 8 sheep were harvested out of 45 who hunted and 60 total permits. More striking was the ages of the harvested rams. 5 were 8 years old or younger. 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. The lamb crop of 2013 and 2014 was poor and so those 7 and 8 year olds aren't around. In addition, neither are older rams that probably died of natural causes.

so no full curl or 8 years mini for the harvest for that area ... maybe time to shut it down for few years if the population can recover? wolf predation? grizzly population in increase as well?

I am very curious to see how bad winter impacted the Dall Sheep. I fear it was very bad, I'll be quite surprised if they don't close some areas. And the lamb survival from this spring.

Give Tony Hollis a call in Fairbanks. I just spoke with someone today who said they just got done with some surveys. I'm not sure where.
