SmallCalDall Sheep - Alaska '07 or '08 Recommendations?
Well, my Dad and I have decided we can't wait any longer and we're definitely not getting in any better shape so it's time to plan for the white sheep.
I've read Marc Stokeld's story and have requested information from his guide.
We're looking for a pack in hunt with guide, would prefer limited or no horses (don't like them, would rather walk than ride). We're both in good physical condition and plant to start getting in better shape this month and continuing until the hunt.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Marc_StokeldGlad you read the stories. They are having an incredible year again this year this year and what they have already done this season is mind boggling. I can't recommend them highly enough, plus they are just really good people to be around (very important if socked in a 2 person tent with nothing to do!).
Do not hessitate to contact me if you want any additional info on the gang.

NorthwayYou should give Matt Synder out of Tok a shout. I don't have his website, but it is a family operation and Frank and Sue Entsminger are the best!

Marc_StokeldHave you hunted with them Northway? They are the folks I huted sheep with in '04. In addition to having an incredible record for gettint clients big rams, they are just 3 of the best people I have ever met.

DocGlennR&R Guide Service out of Anchorage. One of the best organized outfits I've ever hunted with. They really know how to hunt Dall Sheep. They don't have a website, but if you e-mail me I can get you a phone number.

sierrabravo45My father and I hunted with Ramhead Outfitters in the NWT in 2001. It was a great hunt with a lot of sheep. If he had a bow, he could have gotten one with it.
He ended up with a 36 inch broomed ram with 14 inch bases. The thing didn't have the length but it had the mass.
Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

SmallCalThank you for the information. I'll try to contact these folks. After I posted I realized that this was probably a bad time to get a response since it's a good time for hunting in Alaska!

NorthwayMark,
I haven't hunted with them, but I know them personally and they are some of the best people around and I have no doubt that they are some of the most knowledgable people in the State. I don't know if you could make a better choice for guides than them. They are SHEEP people!

LightningTim Mervyn is the best yukonsheep.com. Killed 40" sheep with him. His area is unreal.
Stan Stevens is a pack hunt and is next. Stan is a damn fine outfitter.
Canada is better for dall.

50beoSmallCal, you should give this guy a call, Tim Smith:304-725-1830. I know he and his son went up on one heck of good sheep hunt last year with some outfitter in Alaska who took them out personally and they both got nice rams. Total backpack hunt from the sound of it. I have a friend who knows them and they had nothing but good things to say about this guy and the hunt. From what I understand most outfitters put you with an assistant guide. If I had a choice seems like you would have a better hunt if you went with the owner/outfitter. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.
