Ruger Compact Magnums
I noticed on the website that Ruger is releasing RCM's in left hand in 2010. I emailed Ruger and they confirmed that these will have the iron sights and 20" barrels. I've been thinking about an elk gun, and these Rugers have everything I would have to have built on a custom or semi-custom gun. So this would be a much cheaper way to go. My question is on the cartridges. If Hornady gets magnum performance by using their proprietary powders, would handloads using readily available powders be equivalent to a .30-06 or .338-06?

Probably not.

The RCM was probably the worst idea that they've come out with ever.

I don't claim to know much but I am excited to see them.

The RCM leftys are in stock. I think that they will be "ho-hum" calibers. Too many short magnums out there already.

Buds Guns shop has them for around $586 in stock E mailed them and they show a pic. & description of a 22" no sight model. Buds said the LH 300 & 338 RCM is a 20" barrel with open sights. Just looked today and price is now $653

Just as Microsoft got sued for wanting to keep Windows from being torn apart and sold in pieces, can we sue Hornady to force them to sell their propriety powders on the open market?
