Stiles Left Hand Mauser-Progress
I just posted a link in the custom rifle section showing the progress Gary Stiles is making on my 7x57 project. But I wanted to put a few pictures of the action here.....where my fellow left handed shooters can see how nice a Zastava mauser can clean up Smiler

ROSCOE has also used Gary Stiles of his Mauser projects and has posted pictures here. He used the thumb cut detail on his last couple of projects. I LOVE that detail and used it on this project. It really gives the action a nice touch. As does getting rid of all the "advertising" from the importers. I used a Satterlee 3-position safety on this one. It really looks nice and works great. It adds to the "old school" design I went with on this rifle.

Lets hope we can convince someone to import more Zasatava Mausers...I have a few more projects in mind Smiler

Here are some of the details

Stock and metal work done by Gary Stiles Gary Stiles
Charles Daly LH Mauser Action
Custom Bolt handle
Douglas Premium Barrel cut to 22"
Action “Cleaned up” by Gary
Satterlee 3 Position Safety
German Bottom metal from the 30's.....provided by Gary
Straight Grained 1/4 sawn Turkish walnut bought from Ray Atkinson about 5 years ago
Dakota Skeleton grip cap will be used
Sights will be from NECG (Not yet in)
Red Recoil pad
Checkering will end up being a point pattern.

Gary added the thumbcut after taking off all the Charles Daly/ zastava advertising. I really like the zastava actions, but after all involved get done "autographing" the action it does look pretty cluttered as delivered right out of the box. It is MUCH cleaner now. The thumbcut gives me the look of an older military mauser sporter, but with the advantage of a newer action with current metallurgy. I wanted to use a lever magazine release and luckily Gary had one on hand. It did need a bit of cleaning up, but it gives my rifle that 1930's sporter look.

It has been lots of fun planning this rifle. I got lots of input and advice right here on AR before I started. And it has been great working with Gary who is amazingly talented and very good with mausers and their history.

Great work, I officially hate you! But it's born from pure jealousy.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying a bunch of Charles Daly actions when they were available.

I wish I had bought more. I could use at least (2) more of these for projects I have in mind. I have no idea how many ever made it to the US when Daly was importing them. I have 2. I know of 7 others......6 of those are already rifles or becoming rifles as this is written. I have been trying talk a guy out of number 7 for three years now Smiler

A few pictures of my rifle along side Gary Stiles 1909 Argentine 30-06. I will be using the same sights on my rifle as he has used here.

at one time i had ten of them. 4 of the little guys and 6 of the larger ones. i had a hell of a time getting rid of them and actually making a profit at the time. "roscoe " actually bought the last one i had up for sale. i still have a little one and a standard one left for the "tuit" project.

If you decide to get rid of that last standard action.....give me a call....ROSCOE has 4 of these....He does not need anymore Wink

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
