Shot my 375 Ruger LH today

Love it!
got one of the 20 inch SS/laminate stock Hawkeyes.
Fit and finish is good to really good.
I did have one instance that had a failure to chamber, not sure what happened, it was a 'casual' bolt stroke, and it bound up. Every other time I loaded a single round and worked the round to the chamber with no trouble.
Went to Cabelas yesterday and got a box of 300 grain round nose Hornady.
put a slip on pad, as I need as much LOP as I can get, I'm 6'5" with long neck and arms. Yes I am am built like a chimp

Recoil is pretty good, but not particularly 'sharp' I shot at 25, 50, and 75 yards with open sights and offhand.
I really like the express sights that came stock, I was able to keep all shots 'on paper' and I thought respectable.
I have a Vari X III 2.5x8 x33mm that will get the call for this one.

No other thoughts right now, just wanted to crow a little.

When you get the chance let us know what velocities you are getting with the 20" barrel.

Does the Hawkeye use the same bolt and safety as the Mark II?

Have owned many lefty centerfire bolt actions in my life including some Dakota's but the Ruger stainless .375 is by far the one I like the best and has to be the best buy on the market for us lefties.

I mounted a 3-9 scope on the same model gun that I sold to a customer. I used my personal handload to zero it. (270 grain Hornady, 81 grains IMR 4831). I put three shots into .8 to 1.2 inches at 100 yards four times. Most people use a 1.5-5, or 2.5-8 scopes on these guns, but the round shoots flat enough to warrant a 3-9. I fired 16 shots with the factory pad, and I was starting to notice the recoil with a slightly sore shoulder, but each individual round was not at all unpleasant, just a heavy shove. To answer the above question about safety, etc., the stainless .375 hawkeye has the same control configuration as all other current M77s.

I also love mine, I got it from Vol717. Good choice in scopes that is the exact one that I put on mine.

Still wish they had made these in the 416 Ruger.

Just don't need the 375 as i have my FAVORITE 9.3x64Br that fills that niche already.

Guess I'll keep on dreaming.

Or find a 375 and make it a 416???

I have a customer who is doing just that. He bought a stainless LH .375, and he also bought a right hand stainless .416. He is having a gunsmith swap the barrels and he then plans to sell the right hand gun as a .375. The gunsmith will charge $80 to rent the reamers and gauges and probably two hours time to do the swap. As soon as he sells the right hand .375 his cost will be very reasonable.

Nothing you'd let go to finance the .375 Ruger?

Doubt you'd regret it and if you did I'd probably take it off your hands.

I'll be putting a 1.5-5 on mine some day, my only fear is when I do scope it the other rifles won't see the light of day.

I've been offering zero interest layaway on the .375s to military personnel. I've sold three to soldiers in Iraq and a marine in Afghanistan. I'll do the same with AR folks too.

Well I guess I could dig around and see, was thinking of selling my mod'ed #1 416 Rem Mag, but usually end all thoughts of that when I grab ahold of it, initially I was gonna flog it and replace with a Boddington #1 in 450-400. Guess I could sell my Mod'ed Ruger Mark II 7mm Rem Mag, I had intentions of making it into a 264 Win Mag or a 416 Taylor, but might just let it go.

But as far as flat out buying something, not happening, I made an agreement with mama that until our house is built, there will be no more gun buying without giving something else up to finance it.
