I have posted this in Med bores.....but thought it would fit here as well. Some pictures of my custom left hand mauser

I went to see Gary stiles the smith whoâ€™s making my Left Hand Mauser 35 Whelen the other day. The project is not yet complete but he wanted me to see the stock & progress on the action so far. I canâ€™t wait to see it finishedâ€¦.about 2-3 more months. So far he has the stock shaped, from a Turkish Blank I bought from Ray Atkison. The action is a left hand mauser by Zastava. I bought 2 actions, this one is a 35 whelen, the other will be a 280 rem. Gary put on a new 3 panel boltâ€¦.with a MUCH nicer contour & feel than the original. He also made & installed the floor plate release in the trigger guard as opposed to the ugly stock button. He still has to put the 3 position Gentry safety back together, reshape the trigger guard, add a barrel band front sight, install QD Talley rings with a pop up peep sight & have it blued with a satin finish. The checkering will be Flur-de â€“Lies (sp?). All in all a very nice rifle. I am glad I grabbed up those left hand actions while I could, before Remington bought out the distribution rights. I canâ€™t wait to see it finished! I will be hunting with this one next fall. He will then start my 280, it will be built into a light & handy mountain rifle with a mauser patter B type stock with Schnabel fore end. But that one is a good 18 months away! I can only afford one at a time lol.

My custom LH 35 Whelen built by Gary Stiles is finally done!

And AHEAD of schedule by 4 months! Don't hear that often. Anyway.....he had it on display at a gun show & I took some pictures. He still has a few minor things to do but it is 98% right now. I am more than pleased. The Turkish blank I bought from Ray atkinson turned out very nice. These pictures do not do it justice. I was not able to get many good shots in the tight confines of the show. I will take better ones when I pick it up. All I need to do now is get the rest of the $$$ together. Hopefully by months end so I can bring it home

I have another action with him now....it will be a 280.

Very nice indeed.

What make is the replacement bolt shroud / safety?

Fred Zeglin made me a .30-06 on a Lh Zastava / Daly action. I had a Dakaota three position safety put on mine.

Is that a Brockman peep sight / Talley base set up?

Oops, re-read the posting at the top of the thread.

It is a Gentry 3 position.

I guess that is a Brockman peep set up on the Talley bases.

VERY NICE!

I had my L/H Zastava made into a 9.3x62, a .35 Whelen - very similar!

Somehow the rest of the right hand world just doesn't understand the pleasure we get from a Left Handed Mauser action.

If your .280 turns out anywhere near as nice as this and your light mountain rifle concept comes to fruition it will be a real beauty too.
