Troy HibbittsAxis Doe for the dinner table
although I was hoping for one of the Axis stags I've been seeing in the area, this doe came in late yesterday afternoon and I decided it was time to end our ground meat shortage (we had a freezer go out on us about 2 months ago and I lost about 20 pounds of ground Mule Deer).
So I've got some nice backstraps, tenderloin, and will now have plenty of ground meat in the freezer + any axis skin is taxidermy-worthy in my book.
Also was nice to have finally shot something with my old Savage 99 in 300 Savage . . . near as I can tell, it was made somewhere around 1953 or so, so its getting close to being a 60 year old rifle.
On a side note, my Anatomy & Physiology students really got a kick out of the lungs and heart I dissected out of her and took to school - I shot her in the neck on purpose so that I would have them intact for dissection.
