Scott KingBrooks Range DIY Dall's Sheep Hunt
To me Brett, and maybe its because of my own issues the physical prepardness that you undertook to prep for the hunt can't be over emphasized.
Good boots are a must. The rest of the apparel, good location etc,.....very important. Being able to get over the top of the sheep, (looking down on them instead of vis versa,........vital.
The first hunt I made I was "fitter," and we did in fact get over the top of them. The next time my new partner and I were not and we failed. No excuse, just couldn't effectively get from the creek bed to the ridge top in a reasonable fashion.
"Moose Shape" means some ability to walk, and the ability to hang a +120# leg on your pack frame and head for the boat or camp several times. Cardio is a factor but rest stops are allowed.
"Sheep Shape" means dancing up a 2500' incline without perspiring. You gotta be nimble. Fit. Plodders need not apply. I'm 6' tall and haven't seen 180#'s in maybe 30 years. 210, maybe 200 I can get back to because even semi recently I've been there. Were I built like you I could enjoy the sheep sucess you worked so hard to make sure you had.
Congradulations Brett, a great trip and a great adventure.

BrettAKSCIThank you very much Scott!!! For me work required to find success is directly proportional to value of the experience! It just means a lot more if you have to work your butt off for it! I'm really liking sheep hunting thus far!!!
