Mauritian Rusa deer
Hi guys.
I don't usually write reports but I thought I would on this one.

Went to Mauritius two weeks ago on holiday. Not really being a beach person I knew after a few days I was going to be bored so I organized a hunt with Ivan Charoux from Vacations adventures ltee.

I hunted on a 3500 hectare park on the east side of the island with about 1000 deer on the property.it turned out to be a really good hunt.
The terrain was mountainis and hilly and the bush was super thick. The deer are heavily hunted so they are wide awake and spook easily. I was hunting in the rut so the bucks were roaring which was also nice to hear and made locating them a bit easier. According to Ivan there are about 90000 deer on the island and the mauritians shoot about 30000 a year.mostly driven shoots.
Anyways to cut a long story short after climbing up and down hills in really thick bush and failing on a number of stalks I finally shot a really beautiful Rusa stag that was in a bachelor heard.
I am not too good with computers so if someone wants to post the pics for me send me your mail address and I will forward you the pics.

If anyone is planning a tropical holiday to Mauritius and wants a break from the beech I can highly recommend this hunt

Beautiful animal. Did you take your own gun?

No I didn't take my own gun. They had a 308 there for me. I was told that there is slot of paper work involved in getting your gun in.

Some info on how the deer got there.
From what I was told the portuguese used to put live deer on the boat trip back from java for fresh meat. The boat got damaged in a storm so they stopped off in Mauritius to repair the ship. The deer were moved to a pen and then the island got hit by a cyclone with broke the pen and 17 deer escaped.

Thanks for the info. The wife and I are looking seriously into hunting RSA next year. I would love to go to the island and kill one of these beautiful deer as well. Is it hard to get your trophy home?

Thanks for the report and great photos.

Early in the year I was very tempted to take up a job there with a Pharma company. Opted out in the end. I tried to get info about taking some rifles there & it looked very complicated if not impossible.....

Hi there, I'm the guy jimmara came hunting with. To answer your question, no it's not a problem to send the trophies home. We have quite a few hunters from all over the world coming to hunt with us and we've never had a problem.

Impressive stag!
