A good end to the season
I took this tom yesterday with a good old boy from Texas. A great tom, in less then great conditions.

Nice trophy - what caliber do you recommend for this hunt, out of interest?

How long did the dogs trail it for?

This tom was taken with a 222rem federal 55gr soft point. Anything 222 and bigger does the job just fine. The hounds trailed this one for about 3 miles before a ground fight broke out and the cat treed shortly after.

What would you say your success rate is?

I took 6 hunters this year and and one went home empty, although we treed a tom the first day and a female on the third day. this fellow is an AR and had a great time taking home a big tom lynx. He was looking for a jumbo tom and the first tom was just average for up here. Anywhere else it would have been hitting the ground. My success rate over the last 5 years is over 90%.
