Hunting Mongolia?
I have read the past threads about hunting Ibex in Mongolia but I would like to ask if anyone has hunted the Alti Ibex and the Gobi Ibex. I understand that the two are really the same animal with the Alti growing larger....
What are the differences in the terrain? What is the Gobi area like.
I am trying to decide if there is a reason to hunt both areas, a combination hunt. I know that there are the gazelles in the Gobi, what are they like to hunt?
Any advice or info on these hunts will be appreciated.

Call Jeff Neal at 918 299 3580. He books hunts there and is pretty knowledgable.

I've hunted both and would recommend the experience. The Altai mountains are steeper and yes, they average longer horns than the Gobi variety. The Gobi Desert has softer mountains and climbing not nearly as tough. I'd do both if possible. Bob Kern--Hunting Consortium and Bob Patton-Can-Asia book these adventures. Good luck

Silwane,

I am going to try to get a group together for the Gobi Ibex and Gazelle either in September 06 or 07. There is a huge diffrence in the Altai and the Gobi Ibex. Besides the Horns being much bigger on most Altai their body size is also much larger. If I were going again for the first time I would do both on the same trip. If I could only do one of them it would be the Altai. You really need to be in shape to hunt the Altai if you want a good animal. If cold weather doesn't bother you go later in the season when bad weather and the rut forces them down. The down side to going later is that it can get nasty in a hurry and ruin your hunt.

These are rather old pics from early 90s. Hope you will get some ideas about terrain.
