WY Archery Nontypical Elk

Tim HeraldWY Archery Nontypical Elk
Here is the nontypical bull I shot yesterday outside Cheyenne, WY at 35 yards. We chased him specifically for 4 days as he was the herd bull of a group of over 100 elk. I was with Table Mountain Outfitters who are old friends. My guide Doug Stultz is actually going to Africa with me in May.
Another hunter in camp killed a satellite bull out of the same herd within 5 minutes of mine about 500 yards away.

MARK H. YOUNGTim,
I want a big elk sometime that scores high but I would be very tempted to shoot that bull that you did. What did the right side score?

Tim HeraldHe would have been a 335 Mark. I knew I wasn't going to mount one unless it was a 350+, so I was real happy to get this big guy. He was so unique and was the boss. He outweighed the other bull by about 200 pounds. Huge body...

Wendell ReichWow, that is an impressive looking bull. Obviously a birth defect growing his left antler out the side of his head, instead of on top.
That is a unique trophy that I would be proud to shoot with a rifle, much less a bow.

Lee WoiteshekI really enjoy reading about your various hunts and seeing the pictures. Don't take this the wrong way, but I want your life.

Outdoor WriterWay to go, Tim.

That is one unique rack, and regardless of the score, it should go on your wall.

Tim HeraldTony,
I have mounts in my office only, and have a nice bull in there. My friend/guide on this hunt has a really nice big trophy room with a 24' stone fireplace, and he is actually going to mount it and put it there with his biggest bull. I would have European mounted it and put it in the garage, so I think this is a much better option...

Scott SpencerA little late posting to this report but congratulations, Tim. That is truly a unique bull! Was this filmed for one of your shows or for the Denny's TMO show?

highlanderThats a cool elk for sure.
Justing picking up on Wendells comment, you think its a birth defect or simply the result of a damaged pedicle.
Very nice
27 October 2010, 01:17
Tim HeraldI have to admit I have no idea. The pedicle was on the side of the head, so if he had been injured, it almost would have had to have been a fractured skull...
