Without a single shot being fired ......

Bad Ass
This may be a first...
A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you'll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision...

The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion. That's when all hell broke loose. . . for the lion.

As the lion approached the dogs the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging its head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat. The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, than whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride. . . as if nothing had just happened.

Fortunately even though the hunter didn't get off a shot, his wife got off these 4...

Wow!!! Who want a horse if you can have such a brave mule?

Hey, quit ruining the story--it gets better every time. I'm waiting for the one with the horse giving birth to the cat, then the horse deciding to commit cat-infanticide when it realized it had just given birth to a demon offspring! Wink

I may be wrong but the cat seems alive in the first picture.

Great photos
One of the best BS stories ive heard.
that mule ed' have not achance in hell of being able to get so close to a fired up cats ass.
Im with METE,that cat was already dead.
I'd like to know how he "whirld" him around, bouncing his head while on that gradient.Even if possible Would only infuriate him more, rather than cause effective damage.
Looks like the dogs are enjoying the orchestrated show!

Look at the the cactus in the background. If I'm not mistaken that looks to be NM or AZ. Also, this was on a hunt not a trail ride, those are hounds in the background with tracking collars on. The black bag on the back of the saddle is a pack to carry the tracking rig in. My dad has the same sort of set up for his hounds. I cant say wheather or not the lion is dead or alive but the photo's are real.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

I think it is OBVIOUS that the cat was already dead...
What I find increadible is the reaction of the mule, imagine chasing game with a pack of them.. Big Grin

One Bad Mule

Claim: Photographs show a mule attacking (and killing) a mountain lion.

Status: Real pictures; inaccurate description.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2004]

These pics came from a someone's dad in AZ. Yes the mule killed the mountain lion. The lion had been stalking them for the better part of the morning, on the way out to a hunt. They were pretty sure it was after a dog. The cat apparently ambushed them, and the mule pictured tossed its rider and went into attack (defense) mode, the horses scattered and shots were fired but no one was sure if they hit the cat or not. Unfortunately, the battle was decently long, and it wasn't until it was almost over that one of the guys started snapping pics.

The mule finally stomped the cougar to death after biting and throwing it around like a rag doll. The dogs wouldn't even come close until the mule settled down.

The cat was still alive here and trying to fight back The mule stomped the cat then pinned it to the ground and bit the heck out of the dead cat several more times.

The cat was pretty much dead by now then mule picked up the cat again whipped it into the air again then stomped the dead cat again for good measure!

Note the dog audience.... Gives new meaning to the term "BAD ASS"

"The four photos"

Origins: According to Steve Richards, who wrote a couple of articles about them for Western Mule Magazine, these pictures date from 2002 or 2003 and show Berry, a now 11-year-old mule, owned by a 25-year-old hunter named Jody Anglin. The incident depicted took place in southwestern New Mexico, and came about as Berry the mule grew more aggressive over time in his pursuit of mountain lions with Jody:
When Jody first got the mule and after Jody shot the first lion out, Berry casually came over to the lion and just nuzzled the lion and casually nibbled it. With each lion Berry just got more aggressive. Jody said it didn't take more than two lions and Berry got really aggressive to the lion and couldn't wait to get the cat.
However, the text description accompanying these photographs is somewhat inaccurate, as Berry didn't actually kill the mountain lion — the mule picked it up and tossed it around only after it was already dead:
The lion was dead before the mule Berry took and shook the lion. A lion is a powerful and lethal predator and can easily kill a mule — however a mule can be quite an adversary.

Eeker not common but possible ... Roll EyesWink I haven´t yet founded such a brave mule (then I will surely be its hunting partner for the rest of my life Big Grin)) but that doesn´t mean the story to be impossible to occur...

Even if the cat was dead, still a very interesting reaction from the mule....

Growing up in Oregon, the family Mule ran a male cougar into the black berry thicket and would not let him out. We saw the whole thing happen from the house. The mule ran the cat across the field and into the brush. Dad went out and shot the lion. He Was a bad ass!
