A weekend at La Pampa
Let me correct that: in fact it was one and a half day, say two nights. Of course, first of all I must confess that I have a foe: a giant, black as Satan hog which I´m following since three years ago. I know him, I´ve seen glimpses of him trough the trees and never could have a clean shot. I think he knows that and laughs in a porcine manner. Let me tell you and you may judge. This weekend I arrived at the estancia in the afternoon and was looking with the binos to a big and distant "cuadro" (a cultivated chunk of land). Much to my astonishment, as much as 19 red deer were peacefully chewing their cud there, including several good stags. Strictly out of reach of my pocket of course, the nearest was 450 meters away (we knew the distance due to being measured for erecting the fence). Then...a fat, big black blow appeared in the farthest border, say 850 meters away. And then five more....what a sight!. It seemed Africa, I couldn´t believe my eyes. My partner went nuts and departed quickly tryng to get into a shooting range...of course the quarry disappeared.
I went to the blind, the sun already gone. And just inmediately after being used to the available chair, accounted for the parches of brush and so many things one do in order to hunt under the moonlight, he showed his black snout some 60 meters away...and inmediately retreated into the trees, where I could see his dark shadow running nerviously, like the old boars usually do. This game of hide and seek continued for an hour...and then ended, he went away, I fear laughing on me.
The following night I was looking at a group of 11 hogs, made of sows, piglets, smallish boars and so forth. He never appeared again.
Eventually a medium sized sow was shot, with unrepentant barbecqueing purposes.
Here are some of the pictures (if I can upload, which I doubt) Big Grin:

nainital,

Good luck with that big black hog. The one you shot looks VERY nice indeed! I long to hunt in your country some day.

Lucky man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got my ass frozen climbed in a calden tree with nothing more than stars over my head and -4°C !! Frowner

No big male for me, but one night (I spent 3 nights there) a couple of good size sows apeared. After near 45 minutes I was getting tired and I decided to shoot something, so I aim first to one...then to another...again to the first one...

Finally I decided to try a 2x1 shot.. Big Grin
I wait till the sows were side by side and the 9,3x62 went BANG !! the first one fell on her tracks and the other run 30 meters before collapsing. One of the chaps asked me if I was trying to save bullets !! roflmao

I was using 286 grains PMP bullets (southafrican bullets). The bullet broke the spine of the first sow and went all the way into the second one breaking the "otherside" shoulder, remaining just inder the skin.

I will see how much it still weights and try to post a picture of the sows and of the bullet.

I will go back for sure but I will wait till the winter leaves because it was too cold. Thanks God I was using one of those Dry Plus coveralls from Cabelas because if not it wouldn't bee possible for me to spend the hole night out there, I HIGHLY reccomend that kind of gear !!!

It seems the argentinians beat uruguayans this time, we shoot a nice but young male and three sows in total.

Take care and congrats again!! thumb

Lorenzo: perhaps you should have read my post...I clarified the point, that sow being shot with cuisine in mind. By the way, I suffer the loss of that big black boar in my dreams, I´ll try to see its ugly snout again the next moon if possible.
Some of my so called friends say that I usually howl during the full moons....don´t believe that.

Richard: my impossible hog weighs much more, I guess at least around 150/180 kilograms and is noticeably taller and an astute enemy if there is one. The late, great hunter and writer Lalo Mandojana considered a really good boar the hardest of all Argentine trophies and I agree with him. As I have said in other posts, there are monsters here, weighing 250-plus kilograms.

Edison Marshall, the writer and tiger hunter of long ago also stated that wild boars were noble animals and second rate as a trophy to nothing !!! I'm cheering for you, Nainital !!! Big Grin
