King BaboonRe: Russian Brown Bear
The Kamtchatka brown bear is a different subspecies,
Ursus arctos piscator , whereas Kodiak brown is
Ursus arctos middendorffi (spl?) and grizz
Ursus arctos horribilis (just a lovely name for a lovely animal

).
Piscator grows huge, smaller than
middendorffi but bigger than
horribilis .
Hope this helps.

OlimahtesYou can be certain that horribilis, middendorffi and piscator are that much related that they are able produce fertile offspring. The differences are only due to genetic drift since the bering strait opened. And thats a fairly recent event with evolutionary standards.

King BaboonOf course they can produce fertile offspring, they do belong to the same species. Just 3 different subspecies...
Here is a picture of several large russian bears that canme out of that area, I was told the guy in the picture stands 5"6" to give you an idea of the size of Da Bears [

I remember seeing this picture before, don't remember where.
But I thought these were Kodiak bears.Where did you get
the picture from?
