Wyoming Elk and Antelope
Last year I took order of an Echols Legend Switch Barrel Rifle in .375 Weatherby / 300 Weatherby.

I was fortunate to be able to go to Zimbabwe last year with it and took it in the .375 Weatherby version. Had an outstanding time.

Fast forward to this year and I had a couple of great tags that I had drawn in Wyoming, I was interested in switching out the barrels and took it in the .300 Weatherby version. Through out the summer we worked on a load that shot 180 gr Barnes TTSX and zeroed the rifle at 300 yards. I have a Swarovski TDS scope on the rifle.

Had a great antelope hunt the end of September and was fortunate to harvest a very nice Wyoming antelope at 485 yards

Move forward to Oct 1 and the elk hunt. I drew a good Wyoming back country wilderness elk hunt. We packed in on September 29th with 26 mules and base camped 11 miles from the trailhead. Each morning we would ride out around 5 a.m. and were apart of some incredible beautiful high country.

The area seemed more like sheep country than elk country (11,000 ft +) and I witnessed elk going places I would have never believed they could have gone.

On Day 2 of the hunt while packing out my hunting partners bull, I slipped and fell in a creek bottom and landed square on my rifle (really bad). The scope had a scratch in it, but the custom rings D’Arcy makes did a great job and the scope was not affected.

On Day 4 of the hunt I was lucky enough to harvest a nice bull at 515 yards. We were 19 miles from the trailhead and 8 miles from camp in some incredible country.

Well done Brett. Nice rifle that you obviously shoot well at great distances.

What's next?

Will I am still mule deer hunting here in Utah. Went out this morning and saw two exceptional bucks and went to make a move on them and realized my buddy had taken my bullets with him. Pretty sick feeling, all the practice in the world doesn't matter if you don't have bullets.

Rocky and I are going to the Yukon next year and we are looking for a place in Africa for 2013.

I know you have the Lion hunt up next year, what else?

Will you are living the dream! I almost came and saw you this fall when my Aggies played your Tigers, backed out at last minute to antelope hunt, but my Aggies almost pulled it off.

Come any time. That game was opening day of dove season. I could have put you on a hot dove field, a low country shrimp boil at lunch, and a sundown pig picking when the shooting ended.

Good times down south.

Is this guided? Or did you hunt with a Wyoming relative within the 2nd degree of kinship?

MOA,

The elk hunt was in wilderness and therefore as a non resident, I had to go guided.

The antelope was on BLM and was self guided.
