Goulds turkey in Mexico
I just returned from completing my "royal slam" of turkeys by taking two nice Goulds turkey gobblers. It was a fun hunt and the weather was perfect. I hunted with El Halcon outfitters. My brother's guide was Beto and my guide was Beto Jr.

At first glance this does not look like turkey country. There are vast fields of corn and apple orchards. The turkeys are up in the hills at 8,000 feet or more.

The nets over the apple trees are protection from hail

The country is typical high altitude dry with scattered groups of trees. In most cases the hills are walkable but being in shape is a good idea.

Camo of brown and dirty green works well. Also tree bark patterns are good.

The Goulds is a magnificent bird. I will always be able to recall that big black and white bird with a red head and full fan strutting in with the sun full upon him.

El Halcon lodge is easy to get to and is a comfortable stay. They furnish the shotguns and shells so you do not have to fool with them at the airport. The people in the area are very friendly and with a little sign language you can get by without knowing much Spanish. El Halcon's guides are expert callers and know the area well. The owner and staff are helpful and its always fun to come in after the hunt and hear the stories of other hunters and their guides.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Cool trip Allen!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Very nice. Congratulations!

I've got to get down there for a beautiful Goulds sometime.
