looking for a New Mexico antelope hunt..
I just came back from a Sportsman's show yesterday and wasn't too impressed with the outfitters that were there. Has anyone had a good antelope hunt in New Mexico that was still what is considered reasonably priced?? Not sure at this time if I want to do archery or rifle. Thanks.

bowhuntrrl,

What's your idea of "reasonable priced?" Also, what type of trophy are you after? -TONY

$1250 or less !! Looking for a 14 1/2" or better. Unless I get lucky and draw my AZ antelope tag, my expectations of a 17" are not that high in Wyoming.

Now I'm a bit confused, but my wife says that's normal.

Are you wanting to hunt New Mexico or Wyoming? Also, should I assume you want a GUIDED hunt rather than a DIY?

As you probably know, most of the best 'lope hunting in NM is on private ranches with landowner tags. And they generally go for anywhere from $750 to $900 by themselves, i.e. no guide, accomodations or food. So if you want all of the above, I think you'll need to up the ante a bit and plan on at least $1,500 to $2,000. About the only way you'll likely get a $1,250 hunt is if you draw a public land tag on your own and book with an outfitter/guide.

Now, if you ever get drawn here, maybe you can hang one like this on the wall. This one is 21" on both sides! -TONY

Now that's what I call an antelope!!! I've seen some really nice 17"+ antelope in AZ up around Flafstaff. Do you know what unit that big boy came from, or is it a secret ??
Actually, I've been exploring both New Mexico and Wyoming for options. I'm putting in for a public draw in Wyoming . I spoke with an outfitter that claims my chances are 50/50. I guess we'll see. How hard is a do it yourself hunt on one of these private ranches?? Thanks.

Bowhuntrrl,

We have a private ranch in SE WY that this year produced a buck in the 14.5-15.5" range for all the clients. This is not a hunt where the antelope start halling butt as soon as they see a vehicle. The hunting is limited and the animals are relatively undisturbed. You will get to look over multiple bucks. Perhaps this could be a place for a bow hunt.

This hunt is $2000.00 and I don't believe you will find a better value for your hunting dollar anywhere.

Good Luck,

Mark
