MARK H. YOUNGBIG MULE DEER AND COUES IN SONORA (DISCOUNTED)
I've known Joe Robison AKA ravenr here on AR ever since I moved to Cody and he and I often talked about the mule deer opportunities in Mexico. When Joe that has hunted many years in Mexico and Alejandro Morales formed Agave Outfitters it only made sense when Joe asked me to help in marketing the hunts.
Agave has five ranches to hunt in Sonora comprising 185,000 contiguous acres about 1 hour from the airport in Hermosillo.
The hunting will be conducted by high rack or spot and stalk. Everyone should have an opportunity to kill a mature muley buck or two in the 170's with much larger possible. Note pix 178 B&C-224 B&C.
Agave's latest lease is a ranch with a lot of hilly Coues deer habitat and the deer numbers plus trophy quality are amazing. The tremendous Coues buck in the pix scores net 133 B&C non-typical before the 60 day drying period and was taken in Jan '16. ravenr is so enthusiast about this ranch and the Coues deer that he is going to try to dedicate most of his next season to hunting these diminutive trophies. Agave has not offered dedicated Coues hunts in the past because they had Coues deer but not of this quality. I can only imagine what a few dedicate 6 day Coues deer hunts will produce on this ranch.
Camps are in a clean ranch houses with private bedrooms and modern bath with a max of 3 hunters in each camp. Food will be excellent prepared by a real chef. ravenr says it is the best camp food he's ever had.
I've been invited down but I have not been able to organize the time. Hopefully I'll be there sometime.

flintcreekbig mulies hardest trophy to collect...I hunted Hermosillio 15 years ago with a very reputable outfitter opening up new hunting ranch for $7500 for hunt no trophy fees way back then...worst hunt I had ever been on with no refund etc...this place has a history looks like so would be tempted to return...Mexico was a fun place with mild temperatures to hunt in with a late January rut...must check out ranches to be hunted to verify mule deer availability is my suggestion...these picture look great, but a quick call to hunters that have actually hunted there can be very reassuring!

JGRaiderChasing muley bucks is my favorite hunt. Got lucky with this 213" typical Sonora buck in '06.

wesley timmermanNot to sound like a dummy but is getting your rifle in and out of Mexico much of a chore?? What would be typical shot distance on the muley??
Thanks

MARK H. YOUNGWesley,
You'll have no problems with guns. Alejandro will have your gun permit in hand when he meets you upon arrival in Hermosillo. Alejandro has been doing this for many years and there aren't any issues. There is a chance for a 300 yard shot but typically they are much closer. Being able to shoot quickly is more important than the ability to shoot at distance. You may only get a brief glance at a big boy before he disappears in the brush. The hilly country where the Coues deer are may be more open and a longer shot more common.
