MARK H. YOUNGDiscounted BROWN BEARS in Togiak Wildlife Refuge Sept 20-Oct 10 '14 (1 LEFT)
The pix are not the best quality or posed well but I think you can get the idea.
John Peterson/ Bristol Bay Outfitters is an Alaska guide with 30 years experience in the Brooks Range and Bristol Bay.
John has an exclusive guide area in the Togiak Wildlife Refuge west of Dillingam. The Refuge has an abundance of brown bears and shooting opportunity should be 100% with a reasonable expectation for a bear squaring 8'+ to 9'+.
Personally I've never had a client fail on this fall hunt with John but overall success is about 80% year to year.
In '13 John took 4 for 5 with skulls measuring 26 7/8, 26 11/16, 27 and 27 11/16. 28 inches makes B&C. These are big bears anywhere and the price is about $10,000 less than what you'll pay on the Peninsula.
The hunt is all spot and stalk with much more glassing than walking. John's area in the Refuge offers some hilly terrain but for the less mobile client the hunt can be conducted right from a large lake. Often the bears can be stalked right from camp by using a Zodiac or similiar as the bears fish along the lake shore.
Camp is a tented affair with Alaska specific equipment to deal with what can be rainy/windy weather in the fall. You'll be warm and well fed but you'll not get a real showwer until your bear is in the salt.
A pack rod would be advised on this one as you may get into some very good silver salmon fishing.
Jumping off place would be Dillingham, AK that can be reached each day via Alaska Air from Anchorage.
Pricing:
1x1 10 days (8 full hunting days) $13,500
WAS $16,500Flight Dillingham to bear camp $1,500 RT
License $85
Bear tag $500

MARK H. YOUNGKiri,
Think Scotland x2 and living in a tent without a shower. And yes it would be a blast.

Tim HeraldThis is a great hunt at a great price folks. I helped send a guy there a few years back and he killed a 9.5 foot boar on day 3. I will be hunting right next door in the Togiak this fall, and this discount is a really good deal...(I sent 2 clients to Togiak last year and they killed 9.5" - 27 3/4" skull, and a 10 foot booner that had a 28"+ skull). Quality area with a quality outfitter...

RAR60I hunted the Togiak back in Sep "10", not with the mentioned outfitter. I was successful in getting a MED bear. There were bears. I think the price is about the going rate for this hunt. I think we reference 8,9ft etc. more than should be. It's skull size that drives how big a bear is. I would also clarify, if you finish early if there is an add'l charge to come out even though you pay for the round trip. You might need to do that to beat the weather.

MARK H. YOUNGRAR60,
I included skull measurements in the ad so folks could judge the size of an expected bear that way in addition to squared size.
John does not charge any extra charter fee for coming out early.
