Nice buffalo. Also nice to see a Zimbo hunting in Makuti. I thought the area had been taken over by South Africans. Makuti is a very interesting area.

Mike,

Terry actually has alot of the quota on Makuti so I know things will be conducted properly on these hunts.

Beautiful buff- brings back great memories of better times- Makuti is a joint venture between National Parks and a South African called Jappie Nel who has done alot of hunting in Zim. Our old camp has burnt down and I believe that a new camp was put up at Rifa spring as Ian Glosses old camp at Nyakasanga ran out of water.

I'm glad to hear Terry is involved there. He is a straight shooter!
Makuti is a good area and gets better later in the year. Tall grass can make it tough earlier in the year. Kudos to Client, Terry and his team for getting this awesome buff!

This is the kind of buff I dream about hunting again some day and thinking of this kind of place that gets me up in the morning.

Lovely buff.

Is $5,000 the norm for Buff in Zim nowadays?

Sad that the prices are climbing further out of reach of the average hunter.
Great buff, but 17K for one animal?
Add to that air fares, per hunt accom, tips etc, I dont think there is any good news for those less than well healed.

Realizing that rates are a matter of supply and demand, we are getting very close to the tipping point where rates are going to collapse the entire safari industry. Between escalating costs for the safari operator and trophy fees on the rise (some costs due to countries shutting down trophy hunting), in addition to ancillary costs associated with the trip, the "average Joe" will soon be SOL.

Agreed except that the average Joe is already SOL for the most part.

I have to agree
Prices for these hunts rise faster then any pay for anyone
It is very unfortunate, but that's market
I assume, it's always been this way in the past 100 years

I agree with both of the above. I hunted lion, elephant and a pair of buffalo in Makuti in 03 when Russ Broom was hunting the area. You would not believe the total cost of my hunt.

I'm glad that I jumped on that late season deal when I was a 20-something bachelor. Never could do that hunt today.

If you want to hunt DG you had better book now, not in "a year or two". Go now! Borrow money or sell some toys, but figure out a way to go now.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
