What size bear can you expect? I wish I could bring my own sled.

i expect bears between 7-9 foot, although a 9+ wouldn't suprise me at all...but an 8'er is probably more realistic.
i expect alot of driving and glassing, covering ground and not as many bears spotted as say a may hunt, but the bears we see i'm gonna say should be better than your average bear.

Jake,

What are the conditions typically like this time of the year in your area, and what should the hunter be prepared for in terms of gear?

Have you hunted this early before, and if so, how did the hunts go?

And maybe a dumb question...but does the hunter get his own snowmobile?

Thanks.

Bill this will be my first bear hunt in this are this time of year, usually i show up mid may but most the snow is gone and bears are all out and cruising around. This would be catching them at the hole or trackin' them.
Conditions willy vary from warm to windy, melty soft snow, to possible freezing tempts at night.
i'd wear layers of clothes with a waterproof outer layer for dealing with the snow. a good sleeping bag and sunglasses/goggles for riding.
yes you'll have your own machine to ride..a skidoo tundra not to fast, not to slow...but less chance you'll kill yourself on it!

Bill- Those Tundras are the Landcruisers of the north. We some 12 year old "one lungers" at the ranch that are bombproof and incredibly reliable. I'm thinking the new models have 2 cylinders, also the ultimate in snow-go reliability.

$6500 is the new price, just got my bill back for my taxes....need to move this hunt.
for an additional 1300 you can stay at a lodge and have a heated room and homemade meals each day, ride out from the lodge for the hunt each day, come back each night.
