Fallow BuckPortugal Monteria Stags & Boar
There are NO TROPHY FEES on this hunt for red stags, red hinds and calfs in Portugal along with Wild boar.
We have been given the opportunity to hunt a new location that has proved very successful in recent years. The guides tell me that the hunt will be shortly after the rut but there is still a good chance of some quality stags, along with females and wild boar.
This is a rare opportunity to shoot a good bag of game at a price with no extras.
The only thing you have to pay for is your bar bill. You may bring your own rifle, or rifle hire can be made available. Expect an average bag of 2-3 head per hunter per day.
The are 9 spaces available on this hunt. PM or email me if you would like to join us.
There are no firm limits on the bag, other than if we shoot a strong number of medal quality stags then we may have to take them off the ticket for the subsequent day.

BlacktailerWhat is the hunting method? Spot and stalk? Drives?
08 May 2015, 22:52
GrenadierThe hunting method is driven but unlike anything else. I have wanted to do this type of hunt for several years. Look on youtube for Monteria
This is a great offer Kiri, can you bring a non-hunting companion? If so what would their rate be? Thanks

Fallow BuckHi guys,
Yes it is driven shooting. And is quite an event. We will be twelve guns in the line. I had nine people but six pulled out as deposits were due so time to start again, but it is too good a hunt to let it go if I can help it.
Non hunting observers are
£1100 £900 for the 4 nights accomodation and return airport transfers.
Hunting licences, import permits for the guns and insurance are also all included.

Fallow BuckGrenadier,
I got your PM. For the hunt to go forward we need to fill the minimum number so I will let you know this week how it is going.
Currently we need six more hunters.
K
Count me in. Let me know where to send deposit. Jim

Fallow BuckThanks JA,
We just need a few more takers on this to pull the trigger 100%.
I'll put your name on the list and we can firm it all up in the next week or soon as soon as the list is full.

Fallow BuckHi All,
Observer Rate is amended, as non hunting guests will be £900 each assuming it is a spouse that will share accommodation.

Fallow BuckGuys we need 3-4 more hunters to secure this hunt. Any Takers?
Bag expectation for the three days hunting is about 100 Head of big game so it is some really very good shooting.

Interesting offer. Having never done this sort of driven shooting, I'm curious as to the average range of shots. I've got a 9.3 double that would seem perfect for this. Scope on or off?

The 9.3's are probably the most common calibres in the Portuguese montarias (specially the 9.3x62).
I also have a 9.5x74R double that I use sometimes and consider it a very good option. Depending on the area of the montaria and the spot you got on the lottery the shots can be at 15 or at 150 meters. A QD scope mount is the way to go.

Fallow BuckIndeed, shots can vary depending on your stand drawn.
One of the participants who has done several monterias, will be shooting a paradox with a scoped 30-06 on the stand for any shots that are further than 75-100m
We have two spaces left on this now.

Fallow BuckHi all,

larryshoresI have done a monteria before but not this particular one. It was a lot of fun and I did a lot of shooting. If I remember correctly, I shot 7 stags, 6 hinds, 2 boars and 5 fallow deer. If you see them, you shoot.
I would do this in a heart beat if I didn't have a conflict on the dates.

Fallow BuckHi Larry, yes they are indeed good fun and very social hunts.
We don't have unlimited stags on this one but other than that we can indeed get stuck in.
What we do have though is in the afternoon some stalking is also available for really big trophy stags.
Rgds,
K
