MARK H. YOUNGGreat Price on SW AK brown bear. Add a moose!
Folks,
For many years I have worked with John Peterson/Bristol Bay Outfitters that had an exclusive guide area in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. John has retired and put his area in the hands of the very capable Aaron Bloomguist/Alaska Outfitters Unlimited. Aaron is allowed 8 bears a year in his vast 2 million acre area. He conducts only two brown bear hunts a year there during prime time in Sept. Bears average 8.5'-9.5' squared and the overall 10 year average is an 87.5% success rate which does not include missed shots or wounded and lost bears. In other words if your in fairly good shape and shoot well your chances of success are very high.
I lived in Dillingham for 22 years and Dillingham is the jumping off place for the TNWR. I also hunted in the TNWR several times and can attest to the incredible bear densities there. The TNWR is in Unit 17 with a limit of 2 bears per year per person resident or non resident. That fact in itself should tell anyone how many bears they might see on their hunt.
There are 2 slots still open for '17 Sept 11-20 which should be about perfect. '18 is wide open.
Price:
1x1 10 days $15,000
Charter Dillingham to camp $1,500
Hunting license $160 (recommend upgrade to combo hunting/Fishing $265 as the fishing could be very good)
Bear tag $1,000
Moose are on a draw (application period is closed for '17) and last year was the first year a guided moose hunt was conducted in this area. Non resident moose hunting has only been allowed starting in '14 so you can only imagine the potential there for a monster. Moose are plentiful and of huge size. 3 for 4 hunters took bulls last year with the 4th hunter turning down several bulls in the mid to high 50's. Drawing success was about 50%. If it was me I'd put in for the draw and if you draw you then can decide if a $12,000 trophy fee is worth it. Moose tag is $800.
Contact me anytime with your questions. Since its show season I would not expect these two slots to last long.

MARK H. YOUNGJake,
It is but with a little more and different info. It's not unusual to have two or more agents representing one operator.
