Now for the sake of clarity, lets have your name and profession first and foremost. Then maybe your location and where you have hunted.

By the way, what sort of springbuck have you seen that can't cross a cattle fence.

Ian, I have no dog in this fight, but I have seen springbok cross a cattle fence on numerous occations, I have even seen them dive through a 8 foot fence with the strands no more than 8 inches apart, and pulled real tight...

This chap clearly has no clue what he is talking about. I have seen a group of over 300 trek bokke cross fences like they weren't there.
They move like a wave across the fences in the karoo. How else do they move from one farm to the next.

My guess is another internet professor is having his fun.

As I am sure he is going to come back with some interesting brain fart to support his convictions of there being no free range animals in SA, perhaps he can comment on the following species.

This list by the way is a list of free ranging species that occur in this country now. Populations that are the same today as they were 200 years ago. Populations that my ancestors hunted and which I hunt today. I am sure there are others too, but these are the ones I can think of right now

Where did you gather your information to comment on a country you clearly know bugger all about regardless of the fact that you apparently live here.

A sprinbuck that cant get through a low fence??? that is a fisrt!! Sorry mr porkus but I have seen that happen many times, maybe it was a poor fence.....

I whitetail hunt on Drummond Island in Michigan. It is unfenced but totaly surrounded by water. I once had a guy tell me that it wasn't fair chase because we could herd all the deer to the beach and shoot them. Drummond is 87000 acres and so thick in places that you can't see the sun at noon.

In South Africa, from what I have been told, if the landowner DOES NOT have a high cattle fence, then he cannot claim ownership of the animals, and therefore hunting them comes under the rules of the state, with state fees in addition to landowner fees.

Again not the whole truth. The landowner can buy tags (like in the USA) and give permission to whoever wants to hunt the animals, and charge the hunter for doing so.

@Charl: You show me a property where PURE bontebok are free roaming! What department issues permits for PURE free roaming bontebok as they have to be registered and a CAE (adequate enclosure certificate). And show me a bontebok /blesbuck that jumps a cattle/low fence?? Remember a low fence for some game is like a high fence for others!!

What gets me is that outfitters are offering "exclusive free range hunting" in South Africa for ALL their plains game, They get spinned a story by these agents/outfitters at hunting shows and then get "bull^%#ed" when they get to South Africa. I see it happen all the time. I have nothing against large concessions, conservancies, ranches that are fenced/high fenced and animals a free roaming in large areas but don't sell something that is not!!

From being called a "cock" and a "chop", it is funny when the truth hits home! There is very good hunting in SA even in "high fenced" areas, but don't run down creditable "high fenced" ranches/outfitters to sell so called exclusive "free range" hunting by operators.
