F SAm I reading this correctly, 12 000 usd for an all in brown bear hunt including trophy fee? Wow, heck of a deal! If my bank account was in a better shape I'd jump right on this. Should sell fast!

shouldermanBob,
Great price on the hunt. What size should one reasonably expect if you hunt hard? What have been your success rate on both the fall and spring hunts?
Thank you

AkshooterGame management Unit 17 definitely has good Bears of size but please don't make the mistake and compare this to the refuges on the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island that are being managed for maximum number and size of bears.
Unit 17 is actually a predator control area which means that the state wants the bear numbers reduced. Although I have taken many bears over 9 foot I would not recommend a hunter to turn down an eight or eight and a half foot bear in this area.
Success opportunities in the past have been up between 70 and 80% for hunters interested in a representative bear. Sometimes we get lucky and they get to bring home a big 9-foot plus bear but what I like to offer this hunt as, is an opportunity for someone to experience an Alaskan bear hunt without the over $20,000 price tag.

470EDDYNice Offer- how do you access your camp and hunting area, ie fly in, drive in, boat, ATV? Is you camp a Tent based camp or do you have cabin/s in there?
Is hunting on foot, horses, ATV's, boat...??
What is the quality of Moose in there if you go in September? This might be a tough area for Moose if F&W is trying to cut down bears due to predetation??
Cheers,

There is nothing wrong with an 8 to 8 1/2 foot grizzly, which is what a brown bear is. If I didn't already have a couple mountain grizzlies and one from Kodak, I'd be all over this hunt.

AnotherAZWriterBob has his own Super Cub; there are a lot of bears in that area and hunting them is a blast. MsAZW wants to go back to Scotland this year for red stag, otherwise I would book this big time. One of these days I need to hand the reins over to one of my youngsters so I can hunt the whole fall...

Aaron NeilsonBob is a good dude, known him for many years. I've hunted 17, a good bear can be had with the right guy like Bob.

Akshooter470 Eddie you make a good point about the moose in Unit 17 and yes many years ago we had a serious problem with the Moose. The good news is they are coming back and I saw good moose opportunities this past fall. Since they are coming back I'm offering them but please note that I am offering it as an add-on with the trophy fee only. I do believe if you shoot a moose it will be a good one, otherwise it's a bear hunt.
I do want to clarify that with the possibility of a moose add-on during the September hunt that if you shoot a moose before you shoot a brown bear then the trophy fee will not apply until after you shoot the second animal which of course will be a bear.
The Hunt is a fly-in only hunt, actually ATVs are not allowed in Unit 17 during hunting season. It is tent camp.
Thanks for the kind words guys.

AB109Is this also a "non smoking" - "non drinking" around the campfire hunt ?
03 February 2018, 06:20
AkshooterNo, I guess I haven't had any of the bad experiences Jake has had so I'm ok with untill I do. I am however a no campfire guy. Lol
