geoffGot Eland? Unique Namibian Management Hunt
This unique 7 day management hunt is offered by Willem Serfontein of S.S. Safaris on their owned hunting farm, Olsenhagen, located 23 km. east of Gobabis, Namibia.
Olsenhagen, was previously a photo only tourist venue. It was first hunted lightly only last year. There are approximately 20 species on the farm, including white rhino. However, there exists an abundant surplus of eland, oryx, and red hartebeest. Thus, the following offering.
7 day hunting for 2 x 1 @ $5,500 each hunter.
Included: 5 red hartebeest per hunter
5 oryx per hunter
5 eland per hunter
If 1 x 1 add $280
Also included: round trip airport transfers, accomodations, meals and refreshments, services of PH, trackers, skinners, hunting license and permits.
Excluded: alchoholic beverages, air travel, rifle hire and ammo, preparation of any trophies, and 15% VAT on daily rate.
All animals taken on a management basis are non-exportable and for market. Hunting will be the traditional spot and stalk. Animals to be taken are designated by the PH. Exportable trophies may be taken for the published and applicable trophy fees.
Game taken on this management hunt will be of both sex. A recent count indicated 122 eland bulls. It is the intent of owners to improve genetics by taking out the lesser bodied and horned bulls, as with the oryx and hartebeest.
Jackals are unlimited and at no charge.
This hunt is for 2013 season only. I would recommend this May before the normal condensed trophy bookings. Please check with me on date availability as this will be done during the normal trophy hunting season.
For those of us who have already obtained our plains game trophies, we understand that retrieving and mounting the trophies virtually doubles the cost of our hunt. Management hunting multiplies the hunt experience by the number of animals taken, but without the trophy costs.

That is still plenty large enough to have a great hunt. Someone will be getting a great deal...

geoffThanks Wade,
Their website is currently under construction. They are building a new hunters lodge on the property. Not sure why the website is being revised prior the completion of the lodge.

Eland SlayerWait....so none of the animals included in the package are exportable??
28 February 2013, 05:31
geoffWade,
Yes, that is correct. All animals taken are non-exportable and for market. The hunter(s) may opt to take an exportable trophy in addition to the allocated and included 15 animals with payment of the mentioned trophy fees. There are 23 different species available on the property, including huntable white rhino.

Do you know if they're hunting the fire gnu and / or black impala yet?
I saw picture of the eland herds 2 years ago, and there were some monsters in there!

geoffHello Ovar,
No, it doesn't make sense to hunt the fire gnu (golden wildebeest) as the auction is bringing extremely high prices. Same as the pure black impala. The demand is very high for these exotics so we do not see huntable exotic species like these in the near future.
I heard that a fire gnu bull and two cows went for over $150,000 at auction.

OrvarWow - record prices for exotics! Would love to just see the fire gnu once.

geoffOrvar,
Willem Serfontein also owns a breeding farm about 40 km. south of his hunting farm. There, he has exotics like the fire gnu (golden wildebeest), golden oryx, pure black impala, saddle backed impala, and the Angolan royal sable. Two years ago, I saw the young Angola sable that measured 42" at 4 yrs. They tell me that up to 8" a year can be added. I assume that he's still around so he should be something to behold today.
If you hunt with Willem, it would be worthwhile taking an afternoon to visit the breeding farm. It is very sophisticated with automated paddock gates and cameras utilized to capture game with the minimum of stress exerted on the animal.
