bcolyerBest place to stay in Maun
Hey guys: Next April I am heading to Bots to hunt elephant. We will arrive a day or so early...and stay a couple three days afterward in Maun. I am about to make our air reservations, and want to get some place booked in Maun. What are your recommendations as to a good place for Me, daughter & grandaughter?
Any good recommendations for a day excurision or two that won't break the bank also???
Thanks
I spent several days in Maun in 2005 and really enjoyed the little town.
I stayed at the Riley's Cresta hotel. It is built adjacent to the famous Riley's bar(the bar had been converted into an internet "cafe" before I visited in 2005). I liked the hotel pretty well and they had a nice, interesting little restaurant on site.
Other guys will have to fill you in on the tours. I just bummed around town.
BTW, the guidebook descriptions of Maun are not very accurate. It is even more of an "Old West" town than they say.
If you can figure out transport from Maun to Kasane(cheap if you are the rough-and-tumble type(bus), or expensive if you like to be pampered and charter an aircraft.) that would be an option. Kasane is the gateway to the Chobe Game Reserve. There are all kinds of game viewing options, many of which are very cheap.

safari-lawyerThe BEST would be to stay with Harry Selby.

bcolyerI guarentee you......IF Mr. Selby made the offer - IT WOULD BE ACCEPTED!! He would have a thrill a minute with my good lookin' daughter and g'daughter. Besides, they are hunting fools!
We stayed at Riley's last September and found the hotel to be clean and quiet. The restaurant/bar area has old photos on the walls which were really cool. Staff in hotel and restaurant were very friendly and polite.
Try the helicopter flight over the Delta for game viewing and also a ride in a mokore is a must do. They will have a trip to to tell their grandkids about. Best of luck.
