Which VIP Service
On my first trip to Africa(rifle) I stayed at the Afton House and they met me at the airport. The second time I went I did it alone(bow hunt) and just stumbled my way through. This will be my first trip back in 10 years and there are several companies offering the service. I am booking through Gracy(most likely) and they offer a service as does Air2000 and a few others. I wont have a firearm so that cost goes away, but is one vip service any better than the others?

Air2000 does a good job and so does Africa Sky. If you stay at AS use theirs...

If no gun, I wouldn't worry about it, personally, unless you are on a really tight schedule.

But it has been 13 years since I last went through Jo'burg airport. The porters were a nuisance then, but it only cost a couple of bucks to let them take your baggage to your taxi/shuttle bus, etc. Much cheaper than a "meet and greet".

Perhaps Customs has become much more of a hassle nowadays? I am going next month and using Afton House, so I will let you know how it goes.

You wait could be one to two hours or with a VIP service 15 to 20 minutes.

I'll take door number two please.

His last sentence asked if one was better than the other so I gave my experience with Henri.
Cheers, mate.

Life was so much simple in the 1990s. If transiting through SA one could just leave the firearms case at the police station for a 50 rand fee and pick it up on your way out.
Much easier.

I guess Im should mention Im flying out of Anchorage and to get to JHB its like 40+ hours with layovers. If I can cut down on the time it takes to get through the airport its worth the money. I know I was pretty foggy the last time I went.

I have used Air 2000 three times with good results. I don't think you really need them, but they take a lot of hassle out of the arrival. The lines were long, apparently from other arrivals. We were through customs in less than five minutes.
I have stayed at the hotel at the Joburg airport which is really handy if connecting on to Zim or other countries the next day.
And I have stayed at Afton house twice. It was very acceptable.

I arrived on the morning BA flight, it's a 380. Several other large plane around the same time, other 380's and 777's. It took over two hours to clear the line. A few days later at 3pm arrived from Zambia no line. Che k what time your flight arrives compared with other flights, if it's a lot to together get the service, just yours same the money.

The problem is, most international flights into JNB do not arrive on time. I have been the first in line and I have also been an hour or more and that was before the new biometric process.

I would rather spend the $$$ and be disappointed than save a buck and be waiting 2 hours before my next scotch.

I used Air2000 the last couple of times and was very satisfied. The guy who me at baggage claim asked me. "Didn't you come here a couple of years ago with your brother?"

After I picked my jaw off the floor, I told him that it was three years ago.

What a memory!
