Paris is probably the easiest of all European countries. No forms to fill out, to $$ to pay. You will need to have your travel aagent inform the airline of you traveling with sporting firearms. They (the airlines dealing in paris)want to know the caliber and and weight and dimensions of the gun case.
Heck, on your return, stay in paris for a couple of days. Just grab your guns off the carousel and leave the airport, it is that simple.

Depends to some extent on where you're flying to.

France is part of the EU and technically at least, they are supposed to observe the same arms embargo as BA/the UK do.

My wife and I took guns through Paris 2 times in 08. If you fly Air France they require logging in the gun/ammo info on your itinerary. We were hunting Cameroon both times. We arrived in Paris, direct from Seattle. Our gun case came out on the same belt as our other luggage and we walked out to a cab. Try that anywhere else in the world. Absolutely no issues staying in Paris with guns except to get a cab that your hard case will fit in. On both trips we spent a few days getting used to the time change then took a cab back to the airport checked in and headed to Cameroon. When you get back to the States and go through our customs/tsa you will appreciate France all the more. Its crazy easy.

Agreed. Charles De Gaulle is the least restrictive airport I've ever been through as far as guns go. I did have to go to the baggage office to get my rifles and the police checked them before I left but I walked right out to the hotel with my gun case. No problem!

What Mark said, above. My wife and I flew through there to Africa, and back through there for the States, in 2008. Shawn, of Gracy Travel, took care of all of the paperwork and information that Air France required ahead of time. We stayed at the Charles DeGaulle Airport Sheraton coming back and had absolutely no problems. That said, I would make sure that you use a booking agent that can take care of everything for you. On the flight over, and when we arrived in New York's JFK from Las Vegas, (and before we boarded the Air France Jet for Paris), Air France had us come to the boarding area and asked us about the firearms and ammunition on the paperwork that they had. There was no problem, however.

Of the many times I have left and arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport, I have only been asked to show my firearms once. Since I was entering the country they wanted to check there were no "military" calibers. I have mentioned this many times on AR, but entry into France with any rifle caliber used in a service rifle is in theory illegal without a permit. These include Winchester .308 (7.62 NATO), 30.06 Springfield, 303 British, 7X57, 8X57, .223 (5.56 NATO), etc. Since we all only shoot H&Hs, Rigbys, Jefferys and Nitro Expresses, or brass stamped as such, this shouldn't be a problem.

If you have a layover and are in Business Class
they have a nice BC Lounge with sleeping rooms.
No issues in 09 with my guns

Sleeping with your guns beside you in the airport lounge in France seems a whole lot better than letting the monkeys in Joberg have a go at them??

Our fellow member Wink makes the point I was going to make. Be very aware that any firearm capable of chambering ammunition that is of "military calibre" is prohibited.

That includes any rifle that is "275 Rigby" as well as the obvious the obvious other "aka" that Wink mentions the 308 Winchester.

Cool as can be.
