Smoking drugs is illegal here.

If you read the story his actual consumption was in Nevada, where such activity is legal, several days previously. Finding Marijuna metabolites in the urine for some time following consumption is not unusual.

Legal under Nevada STATE law, still illegal in Nevada under US FEDERAL law. So still illegal where he claims to have done it, just that the feds would be the ones to prosecute, not the state. Whether it should be that way or not isn't relevant to the facts.

This may be a bit out there, but if he travelled there with it 'in his system' is he guilty under their law? Serious question.

They have legalized it in certain places to collect taxes on it.

Marijuana metabolites appear differently based on how long it has been in your system. A basic blood toxicity test will show this. Marijuana stays in your system at some rate and will show on test for approximately 30 days.

I lived in the Emirates with my family for about four years a couple years back. I never had an issue with the way the police conducted themselves. I remember when that American woman was murdered on Al Reem Island in AD. The police had the murderer / attempted bomber in custody and convicted very quickly. She was given a death sentence and there was not years of litigation and appeals... the crimes were proved and the convicted was executed. End of story.

I would have to agree.

Westerners often are perplexed when the laws of another country don't match their beliefs or practices. We generally can be quite arrogant when abroad.

As a young man, I lived in South America for two years. I’ll never forget getting off that plane and seeing military police walking and patrolling. I respected the police and they respected me. Best to keep your mouth shut and opinions to yourself.
