Breakdown case in rolling duffel?
I'm looking at options for this summer in SA. I will be bringing a double only. Are there any issues with the airline bringing the double rifle in a takedown case in one of the 'drop bottom' rolling duffles? it would be handy to have the rifle in a locked case inside a duffel. With the gun in the case, are we looking at a 70 lb limit or 50 lb? Flying in Delta to Cape Town. Thanks, Bob

JudgeGI recently carried two doubles in a take-down case withing the bottom compartment of a rolling duffel to RSA on Delta. I had no problem in traveling there with the ammo in the top compartment and the guns in the bottom.
When leaving RSA, however, the "departure police" or whatever the guys are in the little room that always try to hit you up for a $20 bill, demanded that the guns go separate from the duffel, so, planning somewhat ahead for that eventuality, I had a cordora cover for the metal gun case. I got sent back for another baggage tag for the guns and all arrived safetly. Cabelas sells the gun case covers for a few bucks. I'd get one just in case.
I write the above, and have never had anyone in the same office ask about all the clothes and ammo in a TuffPac... go figure.

butchlocthat is what i have done for the last several trips. i throw the case into a hockey bag and then put some padding around it. has yet to receive any damage seems to be unrecognized as a gun case - it usually comes in with the regular luggage instead of in the firearms line
