Mike O'The fact that the embassy named possible specific targets means this information is to be taken seriously. When they say "rumors", they mean information received through intelligence channels that was credible enough to issue the warning.
As a member of OSAC (www.osac.gov), I know they don't put out information lightly. If you are in or traveling to Tanzania, I would avoid the named areas. There is no timeline assigned to these warnings, meaning the USG does not know terrorist attack schedules. So don't think that if nothing happens in two weeks or a month it was a false alarm. Just the fact the info is now public might be enough to deter an attack, but it might accelerate one as well.
Safe travels.
