Mauser K98Do I Have Enough Time?
Coming back from my hunt we will have 4 + hours in Johannesburg Airport.
Really, it's 6 but I want to be at the gate 2 hours before our flight home.
My wife said may be we could take a short tour to Johannesburg.
Would this be a good idea? What would we have to do to leave the airport and get back in?
Should we stay and shop inside the airport, then spend time at Bidvest Premier Club Lounge?
Thanks for any information.

pagosawingnutOutside the airport is total CHAOS all the time. For just 4 hours, I don't believe I would try it.

ndorobo1Stay inside. Lots of nice shopping on the international side.

TWLGood advice here, MK98. Do some shopping in the international terminal and then go upstairs to one of the airline clubs. You can buy a day pass for not much $$. Have something to eat, a glass of wine, and chill until wheels up.
Anything you can see in JoBerg within striking distance of the airport is not worth seeing. You'd be better off in Detroit.

jdollarthere is nothing to see in downtown Joburg except perhaps a nice carjacking. stay put and enjoy the quite good shopping.

ScriptusIt all depends just how much you would like to donate to the locals, 'cause you could get skinned. Don't do it, I say!

JudgeGI still find it hard to believe, but the Out of Africa (or is it Into Africa?) shop in the international section of Tambo is one of the best places to buy stuff in Africa. Prices are more than reasonable and the selection is much more than typical tourist junk. Matter of fact, I've got a zebra tie on today that I bought there...

impala#03Quite right Judge G. I bought a couple of wood carved statues in Lusaka for what I thought was a fair price. Saw the same thing in the Out of Africa store in O R Tambo for quite a bit less.

safari-lawyerMy wife is a shopaholic and she runs wild in the Tambo international terminal. Plenty there to see and do. I settle into the News Cafe for a bite and a drink while she does her thing.

RockdocIn the time you have available I caught the Gautrain to Midrand and bought some Courteney boots at M Gordon's. Walked back to train station and back in plenty of time. Maybe 2 1/2hrs total time.
Cheers, Chris
