Hunting with T/C Encore
My hunting partner is considering bringing his T/C Encore on a planes game hunt to South Africa. I read somewhere, possibly here, that due to the interchangable barrels, the barrel(s) had to be serial numbered to the frame prior to travel. Is this in fact the case? Anyone traveled with their T/C?

Thank you for the help,
John

I have taken one with no problems but have never taken an extra barrel. They just look for a serial number not were it is on the rifle. Just need the 4457 form and all should be ok.

I’ve carried mine on one trip to SA with no problems, only carried one barrel, though. I’ve been present in the SAPS office when hunters have cleared Blaser’s with two barrels and had no problem. Not sure if those barrels are numbered or not.

I have taken a switch barrel rifle (H&R Handi rifle.)to South Africa with extra barrels. I have done difference things, stamp the custom barrel with a different number than the action sometimes, sometimes the same number.

Next time I will take a TC Encore with two extra barrels. It has never made any difference what/if I stamp on the barrel, they never looked at the barrels.

Maybe you could ask some one who has gone to Africa with a Blaser R8 switch barrel rifle. Or if you are using an agent you could ask them. The subject has never come up for me.

As far as I am concerned I don't think it matters. Brian

Can't comment on TC but I use blaser rifles, maybe it's helpful.

Blaser rifles have the serial number on the barrels and the barrels are individually registered (for European hunters) on a license. when you enter RSA they'll check each barrel individually.
I don't think it would be possible if the barrels were not numbered.

Thank you all for your comments. I will check also with firearm travel service as well. Interesting the Blaser rifle barrels already have the proper serial number.
