Adapters
Headed for Namibia in May 2013 via South Africa.
Does Namibia and South Africa use the same Electrial Converters?
Also, what are some good web sites to go to purchase these items?

Thanks for any information.

I always seem to forget them and spend a couple of bucks and buy them at the airport. They are everywhere. Used the same ones in Botswana and South Africa.

They are the same. I've never had any luck finding them here in the states; however, I believe you can get Radio Shack to order them (or possible online?). I ended up picking one up in the JNB airport.

The adaptors in Namibia are three pronged and circular shaped, about the diameter of a golf tee. You can order them on eBay. Here's the link:

Thanks for any information.

All the airlines that I have flown internationally offer an adaptor for sale on the aircraft.

We've traveled in Namibia quite a bit the past 6-years. There are several different 220v plug outlets in use in Namibia depending on what part of the country you are in and how old the building is. Sometimes your in transit lodging will have adapters for U.S. plugs to fit to what they have, but not always.

Here is a link to the world electrical standards. If you click on “Plugs and Sockets” you can see the various plug adapters available. World Plug Standards

While the link above is somewhat accurate and lists Namibia as having socket styles “D” and “M”, we have also encountered socket styles “C”, “F” and “G” in Windhoek and other cities in Namibia.

Edited to add: Very few adapters will accept the U.S. 3-prong (two flats with a round ground). If you have anything with the U.S. 3-prong you may want to take a U.S. 3-prong to U.S. 2-prong adapter. If needed, it is highly improbable that you will find that anywhere outside the U.S.

I've been to Namibia for each of the past 5 years. On all my trips I used the South Africa converters.

You can get them on Amazon. The link below is the type I've used on my Namibia trips.
