fulvioThe repercussion should be reciprocity from EU and presumably the US assuming they have the balls to do so now that this mandatory regulation emanates from Tanzania (as a country) automatically including Zanzibar which had gone rogue and applied it autonomously since October 2024 and will foresee all Tanzania citizens having to fork out the same equivalent (or more) as foreign travel insurance when going abroad.
Going by the reported figures, whether true or not, it is certainly money for old rope.

I also doubt if any claim is paid. But, failure to pay or perform is not exclusive to this coverage. I’ve heard of claims being or service being denied by one of the two better know “rescue” insurance providers in the US. One instance in Alaska and another in Namibia.

Not a problem for anyone with decent private insurance, which is what's truly needed.
Not the $44.00 policy from whoever in Tanzania.
But here’s the reality, even with back up.
I was injured in a traffic accident while traveling abroad.
I suffered three broken ribs and torn and sprained ligaments in my right knee, including my ACL.
I was rushed to an emergency room and seen by a doctor, had x-rays taken and was treated and released.
But not before I had to present my credit card for payment. Five or six thousand US dollars, as I recall.
Foreign medical providers do not want to be troubled by less than prompt payment, not even by big-time American insurance companies.
After I got home, my insurance company paid my claim, which at that point was of course a reimbursement.
The surgery came later and was also covered, but this time prospectively.

i m assuming any legal visitor visiting usa those days will not be asked credit card before seeing a doctor?

fulvioZanzibar declared having minted approx. $20M over a 6 month period from incoming tourists from this scheme and their attraction is sun and sandy beaches.
Mainland will make a killing from the Northern Circuit influx of tourists headed for the Parks and a smaller percentage of those attempting to scale Kilimanjaro.

lavacaI actually think this is a good idea, especially for Tanzania, which has socialized medicine. While I'm not sure I understand the new law because I couldn't access the whole article, what I understand is that a foreign tourist has to have private travel insurance to come into the county so that Tanzania isn't responsible if they have a medical issue in-country. (wouldn't really be a problem because you'd die before you got treated in a Tanzanian hospital), but a good concept. I think the US should do the same thing so the government doesn't get stuck with tourists medical expenses.

The United Republic of Tanzania, through the Insurance Act, Cap. 394,
has introduced mandatory inbound travel insurance for foreigners
entering Mainland Tanzania at a premium amount of Tanzanian
Shillings equivalent to 44 USD.
The purpose of this insurance is to cover medical emergency, loss of
luggage, and emergency medical evacuation or repatriation.
The implementation of the mandatory inbound travel insurance will
officially commence once the regulations related on the same are
gazzeted. The public will be informed once this process is complete,
