Difficult to get excited about 33 hours of travel, but QA certainly makes the process much more pleasant than the alternatives.

farbedoTrue, competition usually improves everyone and the weak disappear. The problem is that we Americans are ignorant of non-US airlines for the majority of our travel, and keep propping them up.
For the flight to Zambia in August my wife and I will fly Emirates through Dubai for almost $600 less than what Delta wanted to go through Johannesburg.
Hmmmm. Lower cost, better service, and avoid the corruption of South Africa. And we get a day to spend seeing Dubai.
I haven't flown Qatar, but may with their service through Atlanta.

bwanamrmFlying QA out of Houston for the first time in July. Off to Masailand via Doha for some of the specialty antelope. QA had great fares for Business Class as well as arrival in the early afternoon instead of later in the evening like KLM.

Every America airline was subsidized by the government in the financial crisis - as did the banks.
Non has ever paid it back!
