SevensAlways felt you could get Amarula cheaper here at BevMo, Total Wine, etc.
Anyone able to comment on their selection of cigars?

Bwana338Pack 2 bottles that you or your PH likes when you leave. Pack carefully in your checked bag and you have that segment covered.
You will find a better selection at your local store and the price will be cheaper.
Duty Free does not result in lower prices.

MikeEAlso, usually you cannot purchase duty free liquor at Tambo for export to Namibia. I've tried twice and they refused both times. I usually get my duty free booze at Frankfort if flying to Windhoek from there. I have not had a problem buying most decent booze in Windhoek either.

jdollarMost southern African countries are members of an economic co-op that doesn’t allow export of duty free items to each other. When the store clerk sees your boarding pass, you get the bad news.

nickhYes,
No duty free available if you go to Namibia.
This also includes cigars, tobacco etc.
Best to get it f,rom home before you leave.

Crap,
I was going to buy a box of Cubans for the trip in Namibia. (It worked for Zim. but I see that nickh addressed that.)

Tim CarneyCuban cigars are for sale at Veck and Voigt's (sp?) on the main drag of Windhoek, just at the old Kalahari Sands arcade.
Believe there's a liquor store in the arcade basement, too.

Are they good value ? This i# the only time I smoke. A good glass of Irish whiskey(a few) and a decent cigar kinda rounds off a days hunting in Namibia for me (and my mates)

Tim CarneyYes, they are good value and, indeed, the only value for your purpose

You can, as I recall, buy Irish there too, but why not go ethnic and get a bottle of Cape Smoke, a brandy from South AFrica such as, high end KWV 10 year-old, or down and dirty Oudemeester or Klipdrift...
Regards
How is the Cuban cigar selection at JNB?

When are you going? PM me if you want connections for Cubans delivered to your door in the US with 0 risk to you. One takes about a week to get the other takes about a month. Price is MSRP or slightly below. (Much cheaper than i have ever seen in Africa) Have probably brought in a 100+ boxes in the past 5 years. Have had two shipments get confiscated in customs. One email and they reship or will refund, your choice.
