Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro and Return?
Anyone traveled through Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro
lately. If so, what's your experience. I'm going in July Delta interline with KLM in Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro and return same way.

I traveled with rifles from Houston to Amsterdam to Kili and on to Dar last November without issue and I returned the same way. My son will be joining me on safari in TZ this year and he is booked on the same route as well.

Not really recently, but be aware that the Dutch gun permit process is not done too far in advance if you are traveling with weapons.

I’d recommend having a travel agent that deals with hunters (like Gracy) involved if you are going with rifles.

Amsterdam Shipol is an easy airport to get around in.

On the return flight, the extra checks at the gate can take a while. Make sure you don’t try and get too tight with the connections (like staying over long in the lounge).

Otherwise, I’ve been through there over a half dozen times and never had an issue.

I'm using a travel agent and have received my permission to transit through Amsterdam W/firearms. Which I was told was pretty quick. I was just wondering from the seasoned travelers here what recent first hand experience had been?

Stay on top of your travel agent and the permit for Amsterdam needs to be watched closely.

The permit is issued close to your date of departure. Nail biter for sure.

Then make several copies for your travel.

I've done this several times - not to Kili but to Vienna, Bucharest and possibly a few others...

Its not difficult but does need to be done at the correct time - not too early (or they will ignore it) and not too late (or they will not have time to process it) - I thinl from memory its of the order of two to four weeks in advance.

Personally I'd never rely on an agent to do this (but then I'd never trust an agent to do anything....) - as said above it needs staying on top of and following up.

I took several copies of the form - took several with me and gaffer taped one to the outside of my gun case in a polypocket. No issues.

Don't understand the time frame piece? If you have authorization on paperwork for dates traveling and you show up and travel those dates. I don't see where it matters when you got the authorization.

I've always placed a copy of my Dutch consent form for weapons and ammunition to the outside of my Tuffpak rifle case in a clear packing slip holder and never had an issue.

This is my experience. You can try far in advance if you wish - I did. It did not work.

This is the required form:-

Provided you have the form, stamped and accepted, there should not be an issue. If you do not there will be - again my experience.

It used to be that Amsterdam was notoriously gun unfriendly and gun were occasionally delayed (on purpose!?).

That's what happened to me on my trip there also. My experience with Amsterdam is not recent (maybe 7years ago or so), so it might be better now. I have a European gun license, so no permit required.

The customs form is required irrespective whether or not you have a European Firearms Pass (I do) - its a customs form - nothing to do with "possession".

Love KLM and flight to/from Arusha or Dar is painless. Do get your Dutch firearms permits, but use an agent and it's not a problem, although sometimes they wait until the last minute.

Last trip was 2023. Arusha, not Dar.

Yes you are absolutely right. Confused it with another permit actually.
