MLGRifle Permits for South Africa
Could someone recommend a company that does this in Joburg?
I have read about them in the past but don't seem to be able to find anything.
Many thanks

nickhIt's a lot easier to just fill it out yourself prior to arrival and clear he guns yourself!
I do it at least once if not twice a year from Australia to Jberg.
PM me for more info if you like.
To get pre arranged permits is both time consuming and expensive, and
Isn't any quicker on arrival.
Cheers
Nick

Use Enough GunI used to do it myself and did for years. Then, on one of my last few trips, I was first in SAPS, had all of my paperwork to present, and did so, and was told to wait, even though no one else was in the office. I was then the very last one out of the office, after all of those who had paid for the services (and had arrived in the office after me) were first taken care of. From that point on, I have used a service without fail.

SniperI would recommend using AfricaSky guest house for clearing the permits and for staying overnight as needed.

sharpsguyAir 2000. Seamless and painless every time. Worth EVERY DIME. On my first trip over, my rifle--a Sharps--did not arrive. SAA didn't have a clue, and it wasn't in their system. The next day, Air 2000 located my rifle at the United terminal IN DALLAS and had it to me in Port Elizabeth about 1pm the next day. Since I had booked on Delta to Atlanta and SAA to Joberg, I have always thought that Air 2000 did a remarkable job in just finding the rifle, let alone getting it to me that quickly.

df06I have used Air 2000 three times and will again if I go again. They meet you as you get off the plane, and usually in 20 or 30 minutes you are through customs and immigration, ready for a ride to where ever you are staying.
After a 15 hour flight the last thing I want to deal with are issues with guns, and other customs types of issues.

Rick RThe first time I went I cleared them myself. It was tolerable but not quick. The second time (2009) I paid Afton House to arrange the permits. There was a big snag at the SAPS desk that finally ended up being a jammed printer. The guy from Afton house actually went behind the desk and showed the SAPS guys how to fix it and then we were off for showers, grilled steaks and beer.
I did find that DHL wanted like $120.00 to guarantee delivery of my paperwork to Afton House. So I checked with the US postal service where it was $8. I made two copies and sent them in two envelopes. Both made it there with time to spare.
