Katima Mulilo
Hi everyone,

What's the best way to get to Katima Mulilo? I'll be flying in to Windhoek by way of Johannesburg, if that's helpful. I've seen the Air Namibia flights to and from Windhoek, but there seems to be a reliability question ...

Is the easiest answer just to fly AN and hope for the best but leave a couple of spare days in the schedule in Windhoek? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

South African Air flies to Windhoek several times a day from Jo'berg.

It saves a whole night in Windhoek if you fly into Kasane and get picked up there. It is only 1 hour from Caprivi...I did it last year and am doing again this year...

What if you're traveling with firearms? Do you need additional permits, etc.?

I've hunted the Caprivi twice, flew into Windhoek each time, once from Frankfurt, once from Jberg. Have taken the PH's Cessna from there, really enjoyed the overflights, seeing the Okavango from the air, seeing the hunting area from the air etc.

However, if I go there there again, I'm driving, or being driven. I think I'll get to see another side of the country from road level, it's not all about " how quick I can get there, get in the truck and start hunting". I've been there, and tried that, I would like to do something different next time.

Some of the more fun things and memories, had way more to do with being in the back of the truck with the trackers and appies, than riding in the AC up front. Plus I seem to take a lot more pictures when I'm in the wind rather than in the cab or cockpit.

Maybe talk to your PH/outfitter, and see if there's an option of that.

I drove back from the Caprivi to Windhoek and it was a long ride. In fact we broke it up in two days. I won't drive again if I can get by.

The Kasane route is most efficient from JNB to Katimo Mulilo.
